THE ATLANTIC FOREST
The Brazilian Atlantic Forest is identified as a tropical rainforest biome. Its territory extends from the east, southeast and south coast of Brazil, to eastern Paraguay and a portion of Argentina in South America.
Its entire area is of extreme environmental importance for climate regulation and balance worldwide.
But because of its rich biodiversity, the Atlantic Forest has become the main target for deforestation and human exploitation over the years.
For this reason, it is the second most threatened biome on the planet, struggling to survive and maintain its remaining 12.5% of forest
belonging to its original ecosystem.
To get an idea, most of the Brazilian species of animals and plants (vegetation) threatened with extinction belong to this biome.
Not to mention that a large part of the indigenous communities native to this area since the colonization of the country are already extinct, due to the lack of resources in the region, with only a portion of these tribes still surviving.

Even so, there are still many different species of native animals, including more than 270 mammals, 1000 birds, 370 amphibians, 200 reptiles, and 350 fish, such as the golden lion tamarin, jaguar, capybara, leopard, sloth, ocelot, and hummingbirds, among many other animals.
It is no wonder that all this wealth of such a diverse ecosystem attracts criminal and illegal exploitation of nature.
With this, about 60% of the native animals in this area became extinct in the early 2000s, damaging and negatively impacting the ecosystem as a whole.
Today, 72% of the Brazilian population lives along the urban belt located in the Atlantic Forest and 70% of the National GDP is concentrated in this biome.
The same area is also home to traditional native Indian tribes such as the Wassu, Pataxó, Tupiniquim, Gerên, Guarani, Krenak, Kaiowa, Nandeva, Terena, Kadiweu, Potiguara, Kaingang, Guarani MBya and
Tangerang, among others who have survived.

WHAT IS AN NFT?NFT is an acronym or abbreviation of the English word "Non-Fungible Token", which in Portuguese means “Non-fungible Token”. Any digital, cryptographic image or symbol created to represent a new way of owning digital goods or assets, which guarantees exclusive ownership of a unique product or work of art.

HOW ARE NFTs USED?NFTs were created to be used as verifiable digital scarcity as well as a new form of digital ownership to make possible the interoperability of assets across multiple platforms through their exchange, purchase and sale. They can be used in various applications that require unique digital items such as encrypted art and crypto-collectibles, created for this particular project, in order to help with our mission to reforest the Atlantic Forest.

HOW DOES CARBON OFFSETTING WORK?The compensation involved in the project is voluntary, starting with the calculation that measures greenhouse gas emissions related to a chosen profile type, in relation to a lifestyle or routine daily activities. The values are converted into an equivalent amount of carbon, to then be calculated in the forest area needed to absorb and store this carbon. Our project was developed in collaboration with the Green Initiative (Carbon Free) project to offset emissions and reforestation, focused on repairing atmospheric carbon, following the environmental parameters established by Resolution SMA - 030 of May 14, 2009, formulated with the aim of establishing parameters for voluntary reforestation projects like ours, in order to offset greenhouse gas emissions. This environmental reforestation focuses not only on sequestering and storing carbon from the atmosphere, but also on increasing the environmental quality of natural landscapes, maximizing benefits for biodiversity, water resources and soil conservation.

WHAT IS CARBON SEQUESTRATION?What we call carbon sequestration is the process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide. That is, a method created to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere with the aim of reducing global climate change through two main types of carbon sequestration processes: geological and biological.

HOW ARE EMISSIONS CALCULATED?Greenhouse gas emissions are based on an estimated database based on the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gases), adapted for Brazil by Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and other related scientific research.

HOW IS THE FUNDS GENERATED BY THE SALE OF THE NFTs OF PROJECT OS GREENIES DIVIDED?Project success is measured by impact, which is reflected in how your invested money is spent. 80% of the NFT’s value goes to the Carbon Free program of the NGO Iniciativa Verde where 100% is used to plant trees in the Atlantic Forest. The remaining 20% covers the costs of the operation – including administrative expenses, artist, staff, communication and marketing, in addition to hosting the platform. All our NFT's have an Official Certificate of Carbon Neutralization (Carbon Free) We value transparency and trust as pillars of our project, just as we value the integrity of our planet.

DO OUR CARBON FOOTPRINTS REALLY MATTER?The impact of our carbon footprint depends on a number of factors, including where we live and how we choose to live our lives. Even living simply and somewhat sustainably, there is an incalculable carbon cost to almost everything we consume and spend. We recognize that the concept of an individual carbon footprint is controversial, especially when considering that, more often than not, the majority of reported emissions come from a share of companies with ultra-high emissions. However, our project was built around the concept that even small actions can have big impacts. And we hope to inspire millions of other individuals who care about the planet and appreciate art, just as we inspire you. The individual carbon footprint can therefore be a useful avenue to help us contribute a small portion of this huge burden of responsibility.

WHAT'S A NFT?NFT is the abbreviation for "Non-Fungible Token", a digital symbol to represent a new way of own digital goods or assets, ensuring a sole ownership of a unique, one-of-a-kind product or work of art . They are sold and traded using cryptocurrency or fiat payments, corresponding with a real or digital object or representation of a piece of art, a music track, a video or an item to use in a game. In other words, NFTs are unique, non-interchangeable units of data stored on a digital ledger, called blockchain, which contains a piece of identifying information that makes them distinguishable from all other tokens. Because no tokens are the same, they cannot be traded or exchanged at an equivalent rate or broken down into smaller units like currency.
